MY CHILDHOOD LOVER
I thought I was always at fault
So I decided to fix myself
But I realized I was adding too much salt
To a solution that’s already concentrated
None of them ever gave me that love
And anytime they break me,
I remember you
I miss you, my childhood lover
You’re the only one who gave me true love
Your jealousy was genuine
You never wanted to give anyone the chance to take me away
You’re the only one who truly fought for my sake
You’re the one who would always defend me when I’m in trouble
I miss our meaningless conversations
I miss our slow walk from school to home
I miss our games in the sun and under the trees
Your love is the kind of love I would always want to have
But it seems it doesn’t exist here
HOW IT FEELS
I will like to hold you close
We could also play on our Titanic
like Jack and Rose
But you make me panic
You are the air to my nose
But you are very far away
Do you know how it feels like
to love and not to be loved back?
Do you know how it feels
to see the one you love, loving someone else?
Maybe you don't know how it feels like
Because I'm dying inside
And you seem not to mind.
But I'll hold on
Maybe someday,
You'll love me too.
HE EATS THE AIR
His hands feed the mouths in the rectangular house
But he himself eats the air.
Helplessly, he comes back to sleep in the hole of mouse
They are aware but they do not care.
"He might be paying for his sins"
The kings will say leaving the issue in their bins.
Lions will never care about ants
But they also forget about the falling of the big plants.
He is not destined to live his whole life in poverty
But some ungrateful ugly stomachs somewhere cover his property.
They see him and tell him it will be well
But day in, day out the situation continues to boil.
He knows very well that tomorrow will be worse
But he says, I am sure tomorrow will be better.
Some think he's lazy but he does his best.
At the end of the day, he would only have
To blame an old head from the village.
YOU
In darkness, we walked barefooted
Looking for a place of no famine where we can be soothed.
We lost hope and forgot where we were rooted
But You made us understand why we were fine-toothed.
Our destination seemed to be too far,
We met stones and we had to change our ways.
But we still followed that dream of lying in that sofa.
And finally, You brought us to our destination safe.
How sufficiently could we give You praise?
We came very far and it is only by Your grace.
Our baskets are now full of maize.
And You promised us prosperity for the rest of our days.
We turned to see the days of tears.
Many started this journey but only few reached here.
Today, our hearts are filled with joy.
And all we know is that we have been brought here by You.
NORTH AND SOUTH
Pains I never spoke about
My facial expressions are enough, loud
I fell in love in the North
But the pains took me to the South
Her body was here but her heart off
And I fall in love again in the South
I'm only wondering if
it'd ever send me back to the North
